Family Photography at the Beach in Devon - Childhood unplugged - The Palfreys

The interplay between independence and safety, isn’t that in essence what parenting is about? Allowing our little ones room to be free, learn who they are and explore but within ever shifting safe parameters. As my little girl starts back at pre school I can see this divide ever more clearly. As the world starts to open up again slowly but surely we are all finding our footing again.

One of the greatest things about photographing families is seeing this dynamic play out and seeing families grow up. I photographed Vic & Chris’ wedding; since then I have met the family as it grew from three to four… and again this spring. It is such a joy. I love the gappy smiles, the refusal to wear anything but unicorn pyjamas, the rock smashing and the racing. Inquisitive, sensitive and beautiful.
